Accessible Shower Compartment Types (2010 ADA Standards 608.2)
Three types, three geometries, and picking the wrong one puts a remodel a foot short in the wrong direction. TRANSFER is 36 x 36 in -- the only one that fits a standard alcove -- but its OUTSIDE clearance is 36 x 48 from the control wall, deeper than the stall itself. STANDARD ROLL-IN is 30 x 60 with a 60 in entry, meaning the whole long side is open, which a curb or jamb defeats. ALTERNATE ROLL-IN is 36 x 60 with a 36 in entry on one long side. The tile also reports which types a compartment WOULD satisfy as built, because a stall that fails one often meets another.
