Details, formula, and sources

ScopeFluid HP = gpm x psi / 1714, drive HP = fluid HP / efficiency. 10 GPM at 2000 psi, 0.85 efficiency -> 11.7 fluid HP, 13.7 drive HP (size the motor to 13.7 and round up); at 100% efficiency the 2.1 HP gap is the pump loss. A sizing aid; the pump and motor data govern.

Formula or tablefluid_hp = gpm x psi / 1714; input_hp = fluid_hp / efficiency.

Source and editionThe fluid-power pump horsepower relation (fluid HP = gpm x psi / 1714), by name.

Free accessThe gpm-psi-to-horsepower relation and the 1714 constant are standard published fluid-power results.
