Storage Position Count and Cube Utilisation
Counts pallet positions from the module pitch and bay layout, then divides occupied cube by building cube.
Example
You enter
- Building width (ft) 300
- Building depth (ft) 400
- Clear height (ft) 32
- Module pitch, two rows plus aisle (in) 201
- Rack row depth (in) 42
- Rack run length (ft) 360
- Bays per row 40
- Levels per bay 6
- Pallets per bay level 2
- Pallet width (in) 48
- Pallet depth (in) 40
- Loaded pallet height (in) 50
- Vertical beam pitch (in) 58
You get
- Building cube 3840000 cu ft over 120000 sq ft
- Aisle floor (ft²) 59670
- Rack floor (ft²) 42840
- Aisle floor share (%) 49.725
- Pallet positions 16320 positions at 55.56 cu ft each
- Pallet cube (ft³) 55.5556
- Occupied cube (ft³) 906667
- Cube utilisation 23.6% -- 906667 cu ft of product
- Floor density 0.136 positions per sq ft
- Level clearance share (%) 13.7931
Details, formula, and sources
The worked 300 by 400 ft building reaches 23.6% with half its floor in aisle, which is a normal figure rather than a failing one. Slotting policy, not racking, decides the rest.
Building cube = footprint x clear height; positions = rack rows x bays x levels x pallets per bay level; occupied cube = positions x pallet cube; cube utilisation = occupied / building cube.
The facility's own layout drawings, the fire code's aisle and storage requirements as adopted, and its slotting policy.
Geometry only; no purchased standard is required to reproduce it.

- Rack run length entered separately from building depth so cross-aisles and dock apron are not counted as storagefacility layout
- Honeycombing not modelled; it varies with slotting policy rather than with geometryspec-v1813 scope
