Conductor Ambient and Fill Ampacity Adjustment
Ampacity after the NEC ambient-temperature and conductor-fill correction factors.
Example
You enter
- Base ampacity (A; from NEC 310.16) 75
- Termination / insulation column 90
- Ambient temperature (°C) 50
- Current-carrying conductors 12
You get
- Ambient correction factor 0.82
- Conductor-fill factor 0.5
- Combined factor 0.41
- Adjusted ampacity (A) 30.8
Details, formula, and sources
Adjusted ampacity after the NEC 310.15(B)(1) ambient-temperature and 310.15(C)(1) more-than-three-conductors correction factors.
adjusted_ampacity = base_ampacity * ambient_factor * fill_factor. Ambient factor per 310.15(B)(1) (30 C table basis), fill factor per 310.15(C)(1) (more than three current-carrying conductors).
NEC 2023 (NFPA 70). 310.15(B)(1) (ambient correction) and 310.15(C)(1) (conductor-fill adjustment).
